FOR THOSE HEARING ABOUT EU GRANTS FOR THE FIRST TIME

What European R&D grants are, and why they're so hard to find

The European Union hands out roughly €13 billion a year to companies, universities and research teams to develop new technologies, drugs, materials or services. This programme is called Horizon Europe and runs from 2021 to 2027. Grants aren't loans — if you're approved, you get the money and never pay it back. A typical grant is in the range of single to low tens of millions of crowns.

The catch is that finding the right call means wading through hundreds of pages of official PDF documents, where every other paragraph is in Eurocratic shorthand (HORIZON-CL3-2026-… and the like). It's not enough to think "I want a biotech grant" — you need to work out which specific call, in which pillar, topic and cluster, is currently open, who has already won a similar project, and how strong the competition is.

Most companies therefore hire a grant consultant — typically paid 100,000–500,000 crowns per application. navigrants.eu does that research part for you (= "is this call for me? Do I have a chance? Who should I team up with?"). Deciding whether to even apply takes thirty minutes on your own instead of a week.

Three situations I hear from everyone who has applied for an EU grant

Whether you run R&D at a company, work as a grant consultant, or are an academic at a university — this probably sounds familiar.

1

Fifteen hours of research just to know whether to apply at all

You download official PDFs, open ten tabs, build a table in Excel. And in the end you still don't know for sure whether it's worth applying. Next week, the same circus for another call.

2

You're writing blind

Which partner mix has won in recent years? Who should I team up with for a real chance? Who has already succeeded in this topic, and where? Without this information you write your proposal blind — and hope.

3

The official EU portal is improving. Slowly.

The European grants portal recently added a simple topic search. Everything else you'd actually need — finding partners, estimating your odds, tracking trends — is still missing.

What navigrants does instead of you

No magic, no "AI revolution". The hardest part of an EU grant isn't finding the call — even the official portal manages that. The hardest part is knowing who to apply with. That's what historical data is for.

A

"Who should I team up with?"

We find you partners — universities, research institutions, small and large companies — who have succeeded in similar projects in recent years. By field, region and track record of successful applications. This is work a consultant otherwise does by hand for hours.

B

What consortium mix has won in the past?

From 27,798 historical projects you instantly see: who coordinated, what partner mix worked, the average budget — and where your company doesn't fit the typical pattern. Facts about successful applications, not a guess at your odds.

C

And once you know who — which call?

Sector, country, organisation type, deadline — we filter the currently open calls down to the ones your company qualifies for. In seconds, with no official PDFs to read and no need to know EU programme jargon.

"I used to run R&D at a mid-size Czech tech company myself. I prepared the project outline and materials for a grant specialist, who turned them into an OP TAK application — 44 million crowns, 61 points (top quarter of applicants). That preparation — figuring out what actually works — took me dozens of hours of manually going through official documents. I built this tool because I needed it myself back then and nobody had done it properly. It's not a consulting service. It's a tool. €49 a month, cancel anytime, no sales call."
